Solar advice for Welsh homes
Our blog answers the questions people ask most before they buy solar panels in Wales. Each post takes one topic, such as cost, batteries or planning, and works through it with Welsh facts. Because we cite our sources in each post, you can check them for yourself.
Where to start
Not sure where to start? For instance, begin with what solar panels cost in Wales, then read about solar panels in Welsh weather. After that, our post on the case for a home battery shows whether storage suits your home.
The posts sit alongside our longer guides. For example, the Wales solar panel guide covers the whole process, while a post looks at one question in depth. Our guide to planning permission in Wales and our guide to solar funding in Wales go deeper on the rules and the money.
How we write our posts
Welsh homes differ a lot, from slate terraces in the valleys to farmhouses in Powys. As a result, we also write about local issues, such as national parks, listed buildings and the two network operators that serve Wales. Each post links to the town pages and guides that matter most, so you can follow a topic as far as you need.
Most posts end with short answers to common questions, along with the sources we used. In particular, we link to official pages from the Welsh Government, Ofgem and MCS, so you can read the rules first hand. If you think we have something wrong, our complaints and corrections page explains how to tell us.
We add new posts as we finish them, and we date each one. Since a rule or a price can change, we update the post and show the new date at the top. When you feel ready, you can request installer quotes from MCS-certified firms through our short, opt-in form.
